Our History
Martyn’s Cycles holds a proud place in New Zealand’s cycling heritage. Established in 1913 by Joe Martyn, it is widely recognised as the country’s oldest continuously family‑owned bike shop. Over more than a century, the shop has remained under the stewardship of the Martyn family, passed down from Joe, through his sons and grandchildren, and now operated by the fourth generation under Brent Martyn.
Today, Martyn’s Cycles blends its esteemed history with modern service and variety. The shop stocks a full range of bicycles from children’s bikes to performance road, mountain and electric bikes and offers professional in‑store assembly and servicing by Shimano‑qualified technicians with over 50 years’ combined experience. Martyns remains a cornerstone of the Oamaru community, offering friendly, expert advice and welcoming cyclists, families and visitors alike
